"Missy"

Three years ago, Sept. 30th, I drove to Tupper Lake, NY and picked up Missy,
my Canadian Rescue. It was believed that she was 10 or 11 yrs old so we are
celebrating either her 13th or 14th birthday. The last 3 yrs have been a
true experience. My pristine back yard became a GI Joe's delight. A fox hole
every 3 feet. The word COME was truly foreign to her and I became a night
crawler trying to get her in at night. We felt she was either stone deaf or
she just didn't understand English. She was certainly not a pointing setter.
She twirled around in a circle with her pointed face stuck up in the air and
sort of barked. Have never figured out what the sound is. Must be the call
of the Yukon. I have to admit I didn't think she would stay. My setters have
always been obedient, in fact I prided myself on my easy tempered and
obedient Irish. Well now it is three years later and there are no more
holes, she comes when called and I love her to death. Yes she is still
different but a lovely kind of different. Her once thin body and lack of
coat has developed into a right plump old gal with a beautiful shiny and
thick coat. A real Miss America. Sorry, Canada, it's your loss and my gain.
